Chungmugong Yi Sunsin(1545 – 1598) was a Korean naval commander in Joseon Dynasty famous for his victories against Japanese navy. The memorial museum is located in between Hyeonchungsa’s main entrance and Chungmu-mun. Designed by Jong-ho Lee of METAA ( http://www.metaa.com/), it opened in 2011. Design concept and its form is very modern, but it does not clash with Chungmu-mun and surrounding nature. And because the building is shaped like a mound and covered with grass, it feels as if you are walking through a cut tomb(Korean royal tombs are usually huge mounds). In my sense it also goes in line with sustainable design: green roof saves cooling load in summer and heating load in winter, and separated masses allow easy natural ventilation.
