Designed by Tadao Ando, Jeju Museum of Art is located snugly in Yeon-dong, a district southwest of Jeju-si. Local architect for this project was Gansam.
After walking through a generous field of parking lot, you reach the museum floating on water similar to Museum San. The exposed concrete frames surrounding the building capture the beauty of Jeju when you look at the surrounding scenery from inside. The path dividing the water leads you to the main entrance with a courtyard. Next to the courtyard there is a staircase with walls made of Jeju’s basalt. As you go up the stairs, a long slit of windows connects you to the sky, and pops of light shines into the staircase through a group of small apertures.
