Designed by Coop Himmelb(l)au ( http://www.coop-himmelblau.at/ ) and constructed by Hanjin Heavy Industries, Busan Cinema Center was opened in September 2011 after three years of construction. Located in Centum City, Busan, it is the official venue for BIFF (Busan International Film Festival http://www.biff.kr ). Also known as Dureraum, the building is famous for its Guinness World Record for the longest cantilever roof. The big roof which covers the Dureraum Square is 163 meters long and 60 meter wide with 85 meters cantilevered, and the small roof which covers the outdoor theater spans 70 meter. The steel roofs weigh 6,376 tons and 1,236 tons respectively. It felt different from walking on the ground level vs. walking on the walkway which is hanging from the big roof. In the main building with three theaters and Haneulyeon performance theater, it was pretty exciting to go up on such steep escalators with sloped glass curtain wall next to it. Hope to make it to the film festival this year in October.
