Kukje Gallery K3 was designed by SO-IL (http://so-il.org/). Completed in 2012, the 16 x 9 x 6m space is a day lit gallery space with perimeter skylight above ground, with a 60 seat auditorium, offices and art storage spaces in two floors below ground. The gallery space is in pure box form with all the staircases and mechanical systems pushed to its perimeter. Steel mesh made of 510,000 individually welded rings make the rigid mass look softer than what it really is. The custom stainless steel mesh came from collaboration with Front Inc.(http://www.frontinc.com/) with computational process to make it tight fit, wrinkle free and stress concentration free.
